Dates: Saturday, January 2 & Sunday, January 3, 2015
Location: North Lake Tahoe

Synopsis: Following periods of heavy snow during Christmas week, the Tahoe Basin was subject to particularly strong winds that impacted much of the alpine zones above tree line, leaving wind scoured surfaces. However, the near tree line and below tree line terrain sheltered the snow from the intense winds. Coupled with very cold temperatures, the tree skiing continues to be excellent. With more storms forecast this week, fingers are crossed for more days out like this.
West aspects have been skiing particularly good. Noah working down through fresh tracks. Photos: Nick
It has been great to ski lower-elevation trees without risk of lurking rocks, down trees and the like. Feels like true winter again with a deep snowpack. Nick enjoying his way down. Photos: Noah
During Sunday, there was a random plane buzzing near the summit of Silver Peak repeatedly. Maverick and Goose, flying below the hard deck again! Photo: Nick
Basically, protected tree skiing has, indeed, been awesome! I will let the pictures do the speaking in this TR! Photos: Nick (of Noah and Pat), and Noah (of Nick)
Even the wide-open stuff well below ridgeline that was wind-sheltered has been great! Photos: Noah
As an unrelated matter, is there anything better than cold leftover pizza for touring? I think not… Photo: Noah
