CAOS EN LA PASADA SONORA: May 29, 2010
The day started skinning right from the cars at the top of the pass. This was a sign of good things to come.
We planned to make a beeline for Leavitt, but I had a really hard time not stopping here. Please, just a quick lap? I know not your name but I would love to be friends!
Jon and Kel broke trail on the first stretch, so they were the first to greet the terrain awaiting us
May Twenty-what???
No P-C-Tscree to worry about today, skinned all the way from the car to the top of the peak. Did we really just do that without a snowmobile???
Leavitt Peak, OH YEAH!
Nick and Jon calculate the weight of the cornice against the liability of the trailbreaker … Colin runs back to the car to consult reference text (his boots were causing problems). The group concludes the main entrance into El Y is best left for those with bigger huevos.
Meanwhile the rest of the gang discuss local geography. “I’m telling you, you can see Putin’s missile silos just past that moraine way back there … ”
Kel had already heard enough political shenanigans on the early morning drive on NPR – it’s time to grab his gear and ski some pow!
OH YEAH!
Jon gets the beat started …
Nick brings the bass …
Chad works the mike …
Kel shreds the synth …
OH YEAH!
Meanwhile, Alex decided that gang-banging couloirs can be fun, but not as fun as having this beauty all to himself.
OH YEAH!
Jon rockets out of the couloir and requests permission to buzz the tower …
OH YEAH!
Nick says, “Hey I saw Top Gun when I was a kid too …”
OH YEAH!
Powder smiles all around, it’s MAY 29!!!
..
HEY THAT WAS AWESOME, LET’S GO FOR ANOTHER LAP!
Nick has a look in the bowl this time, looks DELISH!
Meanwhile the other boys have a look in Paris Hilton Chute
Nick is having a blast …
But Chad isn’t – WHUH OH!
He recovers and makes it out unscathed
Kel is Paris Hilton’s biggest fan
Jon has a thing for Nicole Ritchie but Paris does fine in a pinch
Did I mention how much fun Nick was having in the bowl?
Alex joined the party just in time …
… Jon was cutting lines with his whippets, plenty to go ’round!
This place is only fun when it’s untracked …
Time to get out of here and move on to the next funzone!
(Spy shot of Deadman on our way out)
Jon found a Malibu Castle
Chad teed up too!
“Hey Alex, this looks like fun!”
Didn’t your PSIA 3 instructor tell you not to drag your uphill pole?
Alex plays the limbo on a rollover
Ooops, did I do that?
Eh, this snow ain’t so blower anymore, time to bail and grab the beers in the cooler at the hairpin turn!
Is that what I think it is?
OH LORD YES, my favorite!
Brought to me by my favorite Santa Rosa resident!
Pass the stuff around, Nick has never had such finely crafted brew.
Hmmm, epic untracked pow, great cold beer, and an awesome crew … how do you feel about that guys?
But wait, there’s more! Plenty of leftovers to go around for everyone else.
Nick said there was some food we could find somewhere just past here (Little Walker River Valley)
Rhino is king, but does it count if you’ve swapped in a soyburger?
Hey that was awesome! But Chad and Scralph aren’t done yet!
EXCITACION EN LA PASADA TIOGA: May 30, 2010
Nota Especial: On this day, Nick was on his way to Redding to Fly Fish, but Alex and Chad had too good of a day at Tioga not to include! Writing by Alex.
The climb up Ellery began a little … well, “crisp.” Not quite the soft stuff we had the day before but that would change once the sun came out.
This year you probably can hit Solstice on the Solstice! (Just watch out for that cornice!)
Chad said he’d send it for a case of beer
We drank all my beer at the hairpin on 108 so Chad headed over to the peanut gallery instead …
I told him I’d give him a hug if he sent this one
Hey, this stuff’s still powdery!
Alex says, “It goes!” …
… but the drop in is kind of puckery!
Just remember what Mr. Miyagi told you, “If do right, no can defense.”
Here we go …
… just remember to wax off!
Chad survives the slough factory
That was pretty gnar …
But Chad sees plenty of gnar-er stuff in this canyon …
… so many huge lines!
Hey Chad, how do we get out of here? I think we ski out over the edge of that thing into the canyon abyss …
Okay then, you go first …
Oh hey, I think I see my car down there!
Would you tell your wife you skied this over the weekend?
Phew, that was awesome but exhasting. Time to go home ….
HASTA LA VISTA!
